Like so many other artists, I am deeply inspired by nature—especially the sun-washed landscapes and endemic plants of Central Mexico. Each of my paintings is my best attempt to describe what is ultimately indescribable: a moment that feels like a warm stillness, something clearly spiritual yet ordinary, a sense of knowing. My only intention for the viewer is that they, too, might experience a hint of something indescribable.

In my most recent paintings, I am both embracing and challenging my natural creative instincts. I create curved lines and organic shapes that have always been inherent to my mark-making. At the same time, I am making a conscious effort to move beyond my tendency toward subtle contrast and muted colors by exploring a bolder palette.

For the time being, my work is an attempt to document and share moments of beauty as I deepen my connection with nature. Although deeply personal, I hope it occasionally strikes a chord with the shared human experience.

Liz Hester grew up in West Texas and graduated from college with a B.A. in Studio Art. After college, she pursued her passion for social justice, working for several years in the nonprofit sector. She now lives in Querétaro, Mexico where she works from her home studio.
